We are nothing if not consistent - it is not unusual, once we start doing something and like it to quickly make a tradition of it. The Ankeny Youth Triathlon is no exception. Ava raced it last year - Amelia was left out because she wasn't old enough. So as you might imagine with our Amelia, she kept track and KNEW she could do it this year because she would be seven!
I had a couple of long, busy travel days last week, so when the alarm sounded at 5:45am to get everyone up for the triathlon I kind of felt like I'd been hit by a bus. The girls energy and enthusiasm quickly took hold, we met our friends the Gabels and headed to Ankeny for the race.
Body marking - a badge of pride for any triathlete, but especially ours! The woman doing their body marks had an M-Dot tattoo. I'm in awe...
The girls set up their transition areas, which are conveniently marked in a parking lot - each kid gets a spot for their stuff - and scoped out the scene. Ava, Eva and Amelia mug for the camera while we wait...
Amelia's age group was up first - our little swimming elf waits for her turn to go....
Amelia flew through the swim, out of the water and into transition - pure determination!
Looking strong on the bike - she's already asked us for a new, faster bike for next year!
We had to divide and conquer a bit since Ava's age group was starting... John ran over to watch Amelia finish the run (she was awesome!) and they met me just in time to see Ava finish the swim and head to the bike transition....
Ava with a big smile, having fun on the bike...
Finishing the race, hand in hand with Eva....
Triathletes!
What does a 7 year old triathlete need but a little hot chocolate in a to-go cup?!
