One Holiday at a Time

Call me a purist, but I fall squarely into the category of celebrating one holiday at a time. Many of our neighbors had the Christmas decorations up the weekend before Thanksgiving. When our girls would ask why we couldn't put our decorations up, my answer was simply: I like to enjoy one holiday at a time.

This weekend we crammed in a couple of holiday celebrations, beginning with Thanksgiving and our wedding anniversary. Marilyn was kind enough to stay with our girls as we headed off for a quick weekend trip to Minneapolis to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary. 10 years ago we were married on a beach, so naturally we would mark this occasion by visiting Minnesota!

Friday night we had dinner with my sister Betsy and her boyfriend Mack at the Inn. (Fantastic night, great food, better company) The next morning we had the best.breakfast.EVER! at Victor's 1959 Cafe. If you are even in the vicinity go there. Go there hungry!

Saturday John and I had tickets to the Iowa vs Minnesota football game. It was a chilly day, but sunny and not too windy so we walked from our hotel to the stadium, about 2 miles, through campus. Minnesota outplayed Iowa and I honestly had a hard time knowing who to root for. (1994 Minnesota grad, Iowa native) It was cold enough that we left after the first half, walking back to the hotel to warm up before our dinner reservations at the 112 Eatery. John ate the sweetbreads (they're not what you think) and I had foie gras meatballs. A foodie heaven.

When we got home it was time to decorate the house for our next holiday. Here, Grandma Marilyn poses with the girls (Ava was finger knitting a scarf)....
