Camp Grandma Jo

This week Ava has been on a staycation between the end of her time at childcare/pre-school and the start of Kindergarten.  We are very fortunate that Ava's Grandma Jo was able to keep her at home this week to give her that break.

Although saying that Ava's been at home, on a break, doesn't quite capture the week she's had at Camp Grandma Jo.  They've been shopping (and shopping) and as a result Ava is likely to be the fanciest girl in her Kindergarten class.  Grandma Jo has started to teach Ava how to sew, they've gone swimming and they've visited Grandma Jo's work.  To top it all off today Grandma Jo and Annie, along with Ava's friend Olivia went to the zoo, then to 'Old McDonalds,' then to see WallE.

Last night as a special mid-week treat John made sushi and tempura vegetables for us.  Yes we are in Iowa, but even here sushi at home is possible! I took a picture of John making a sushi roll, but it is sort of out of focus, excuse the user error.  

Fortunately Grandma Jo wasn't too tired from all their activities to join us for sushi night. (Papa Ray was here too, but jumped out of the picture!)

We even got Ava to eat some, although you see by her face she wasn't really gangbusters with the sushi.  She was more interested in the tempura broccoli - amazing what a little breading and frying will do for a person's interest in vegetables! 

After a nice long holiday weekend Ava can look forward to Camp Grandma Marilyn next week! Kindergarten will seem tame by comparison.
