On our last day at the North Shores we visited the Split Rock Lighthouse. Ava was very enamored with the idea of being able to actually walk around in a lighthouse and asked all kinds of questions of the staff. They have really done a remarkable job with maintaining the facility. We toured the lighthouse, sounded the horns and visited the caregiver's home. The lighthouse was constructed by pulling materials up from lake - roads weren't in place until sometime in the early 1900's. I was struck by how lonely it would be to be the caretaker even with the charming home on the grounds.
