Last Saturday we set off for our first family vacation in five years. Talk about long overdue! Oh we've had perfectly reasonable excuses for not taking a vacation - law school, pregnancy, job changes, kids in college.... But this week we set aside those excuses and plenty of other good ones (isn't it always time or money?) to travel to the North Shores with Brian and Hilary's family.
On the first leg of the trip we stopped in Duluth to look around, give the kids a chance to stretch out and get some lunch. As we walked along the canal in Duluth we came to a draw bridge. While we were standing there the horn sounded (sending Amelia skittering in to John's arms like a little cat) and the bridge started to raise.
Ava was thrilled!
