It has been a completely lovely Fall weekend. The girls are on Fall break next week, which loosens things up around here a little bit. We've pretty much spent the weekend puttering, doing the usual laundry, cooking and trying to restore some order. But also spending lots of time outside, John golfing, me running, girls playing... Last night Lane was kind enough to stay with the girls while John and I took in "Gravity" at the theater here in town. (WOW!)
This afternoon we decided Orbit deserved a chance to enjoy the weather so we packed up him and went to the dog park near our house. He might be small, but that dog can work up some speed when wants to.... Running with Ava....
Trying to get a good picture of two kids and a dog running- not so successful, but I still think this is kind of fun....
Since the beginning of 5th Grade Ava has been on us about her bed time. Generally we put the kids to bed around 8:00pm - Ava gets to read in bed until 8:30pm. She doesn't like this one bit. The thing is.... she is a kid who has always needed a lot of sleep. We get them up at 6:45 am for school and 8:30pm lights out seems to support that. Ava got particularly dialed up about her bedtime this weekend and I found this note under my door...
When I showed it to John he said, "she wrote us a memo! To: Mom and Dad - it has come to my attention that you are not giving your role as parental authorities sufficient flexibility....." Even so, the note worked. Ava has asked for and now earned the privilege of staying downstairs with us until 8:30pm while her sister goes to bed at 8:00pm. Then she can read in bed until 9pm. I am quite confident when Amelia realizes this injustice has been granted she will not write us a memo.
