There's a lot of talk in parenting circles about over scheduling children. We try to be mindful of managing the kids activities for their benefit, our benefit and not to mention the family budget. Even so, the uptick in the number of evening activities since the school year started feels pretty dramatic.
The girls both played Park and Rec Soccer - a frankly pretty low key eight week activity. But it involved practice or games two nights a week, sometimes overlapping, sometimes not so much. Amelia started baton practice this school year, but that is only one night a week. Both girls dance on Saturdays and both girls have thrown themselves into swim team. And that's where the schedule gets nuts. Amelia's practice is from 6:15-7:00pm, Ava's from 7:00-8:30pm so swimming nights mean a lot of roundtrips between our house and the pool. All this has changed up the rhythm of our evenings quite a bit.
I love that they swim, it is such a good program, such a great sport. And I love this little elf in her swim suit and team cap! I am pretty sure this is just a small glimpse of the years to come....
Orbit would very much prefer that we all spend our evenings cuddled up on the couch, watching TV. Here he sits on Ava's coat in an attempt to keep her at home....
