In a happy accident on my way back from grocery shopping last Sunday morning I took a wrong turn. And that wrong turn took me by a lovely little park about two blocks from the house we were renting. Especially Amelia loves the park. And Amelia, who never transitions easily, was struggling a little bit with being away from home, being out of her routine. Later that day Grandma Jo did some further investigation and found a little bridge near the park with geese and turtles. So the next morning after breakfast we packed up some stale bread and headed out.
Ava absolutely loved feeding the wildlife, but Amelia, she was fussy and out of sorts.
Even the rather bizarre sight of a children's bicycle floating in the water, then being rescued by an enterprising young man with a fishing pole didn't peak our Nosy Nellie's curiosity.

The deal was sealed when she 1) continually said her ear hurt and 2) asked to leave! the park! That has never (and I mean never) ever happened. I walked her back to the house, consulted with John and we set upon a mission to find a pediatrician. As an aside.... Amelia has had ONE ear infection in her whole life. She has been a robust little girl, rarely ill, and when she is it just doesn't last long. But the symptoms could not be ignored.
John wrangled with the insurance company and the local pediatrician's office while I ran to the pharmacy to find some medicine that would relieve her symptoms. A couple of hours later Amelia and John arrived at the pediatrician's office, where John took this picture of her in some really pretty light....
An ear infection confirmed, two doses of amoxicillian and some decongestant and Amelia was much more herself. And loving round two of feeding the geese and turtles....
Fancy Ava!
Swinging on the swings at the park, where we went nearly every morning for the remainder of our vacation...
