On our first full day in the Black Hills, what would we do but visit Mount Rushmore? Or, "The Guys" as Hilary's family calls them! Walking through the entrance to the park Ava spotted the Iowa flag and column in the row of states.....

We hiked around the Presidential Trail, taking in the sights and all the information. From time to time Amelia got a boost from her big brother. She had the best ride in the family!
Ava loved climbing the rocks along the trail.....

The highlight of the trip for John was meeting the last surviving Mount Rushmore worker, Nick Clifford. Mr. Clifford is also quite a baseball player. We bought a copy of his book and chatted for a moment. It was actually a kind of emotional moment in the midst of the kitchey gift shop.....
