IronKids Packet Pick Up

Tomorrow Ava will race her third Hy-Vee IronKids Triathlon and Amelia will tackle her first race ever.  Today was a day off work for me, so the girls and I headed up to the race site, Raccoon River Park, to swim in the lake and play a little bit before packet pick up opened up.

Last year when Ava graduated to the Intermediate class it meant she had to do a real swim (150 meters) in open water with some of it over her head.  She really, really struggled with the swim.  Last fall she joined the Indianola Swimming Club and I cannot sing their praises enough. In one year's time she has gone from struggling and being a little bit nervous about the swim to having total confidence it will be her best leg of the triathlon.  All the while I can relax knowing how confident both of my girls feel swimming.

After the girls practiced running into the water, swimming and running back out we headed up to packet pick up. Oh the excitement was high! We got their things - race numbers! swim caps! TWO shirts!  a random can of Spaghettios? And walked through the different legs of the race so they would know generally where to go and what to look for (the volunteers are terrific at this race) tomorrow morning.

The flexing, it never gets old....

Ben has only done one of those, and I wish he and the other boys were doing more! It's so fun to watch them and cheer them on. Spaghettios....carb loading the night before?
